With endless countryside, quaint towns, beaches and some of the UK’s most cosmopolitan cities, there really is something for everyone in Yorkshire.
Most people characterise Yorkshire with images of the Yorkshire Dales and some of the most fantastic countryside the UK has to offer. Dotted in among those flowing hills are picturesque villages where you can stop off from walks to take in a cup of tea and a cake at local tea shops, or just wander the quiet streets that connect them to the hectic outside world.
But Yorkshire isn’t just about the hills and the countryside. It also offers some wonderful coastal towns and endless beaches. Towns like Bridlington and Whitby attract visitors year round to saunter along their stretches of beach; you just need a few extra layers sometimes!
Then there are Yorkshire’s wonderful, cosmopolitan cities, namely York and Leeds. York is famed for its beautiful architecture, winding alleys and towering Minster and truly is a unique city. Leeds brings to Yorkshire its taste of modernity, with shopping, restaurants and nightlife to match any UK city.

We found Foldyard House to be immaculate when we arrived. Tried to contact the housekeeper, no one answered the phone. We left a message, and still no reply. We had arrived early and wondered if we could go into the house. The back was open so we went in at 3.45pm. There was absolutely nothing we could fault, except the first aid boxes were empty. Needed plasters. Also the house was riddled with flies on the Sunday before we left. You obviously have a problem with that. Just a comment - it would be beneficial to have blinds to pull down in the dining room as the sun was blinding people. There was no cutlery section in the dishwasher. These are not complaints - just comments to help you improve you're service. All in all we thought the house for beautiful, with everything you could ask for and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Many thanks.
We loved everything about the house. Very clean and welcoming. The sauna, hot tub and BBQ was a big bonus.
Great property in a very quiet location but close enough to shops etc. Booking process very efficient with access to an app which gave very comprehensive information on the property and all the services available in the area. Foldyard house was, as expected, very well equipped and very big. The only negatives were the showers in the en suites which were very hard to turn on and then unable to regulate the temperature. Raised the problem when we were there but not rectified which was very disappointing.
Spacious, attractive, well equipped house. Great to have a games room and hot tub (even over Christmas).
Beds very comfy. Plenty of hot water.
Lynda and Tony were extremely helpful and fast to respond to any queries.
The kitchen had everything we needed to cater for 12.
The house had 2 Christmas trees which was very much appreciated.
We had a long weekend away at Foldyard House with family and friends staying over the August bank holiday weekend. The cottage itself is beautiful and looks to have been tastefully restored and extended - its huge! It has great facilities (really good parking, seriously impressive kitchen, dining and lounge areas) with the bonus of a well maintained hot tub, sauna and pool table. What sets this place apart though is the location - with a bit of research (there is a good welcome book actually which contains a lot of this), the house is around 20 mins from Bridlington which given the weather we had, has lovely beaches and quite a lively seaside town (recommend busy bees for fish and chips). We also went to the beach at Hornsea - not as accessible perhaps (with a pram) - but still really enjoyable - especially as we ventured to the Marina. Finally, if you want to do a spot of shopping, there is a nice market town called Beverly which is a lovely place to walk around and enjoy the sights. We had great weather so we were out and about a lot and Foldyard house was a perfect base to come back, feed the family and have a relaxing night in (including a bottle of fizz under the stars in the hot tub - a rare and fantastic treat). If you're looking for somewhere where you can house a big family get together/ get away, this place is definitely worth a look and we'll be looking at booking this place again!
We had an amazing time at Foldyard house! The place was so clean, and so well equipped for a large group. We loved the hot tub and sauna, sitting down for a meal at the huge dining table and relaxing in the equally large lounge.
