Group Accommodation in Henley-on-Thames
Henley-on-Thames is situated on the River Thames in Oxfordshire, approximately 10 miles downstream from Reading and about 10 miles upstream from Maidenhead. Henley and its surroundings is the perfect destination for groups of family and friends wishing to get away from it all, with a selection of group accommodation available close by.
With the river passing through, Henley is a scenic and pretty town and has several historic buildings of interest. Among these is Henley Bridge, a five-arched bridge built back in 1786 and today considered to be a Grade 1 listed building. Of interest to note, the bridge was badly damaged back in August 2010 after being hit by a boat named Crazy Love, but has since been repaired.
Approximately a mile upstream from the bridge is Marsh Lock, an unusual lock located on the opposite side of the river to the towpath, meaning that a wooden bridge had to be built across from the Oxfordshire bank and back again, to keep the pathway going.
The second Grade 1 listed building worth seeing in Henley is Chantry House, an unusually constructed building which has more storeys on one side than it does on the other. The oldest building in town is The Old Bell, a pub in the town centre, which dates back to 1325.
For boating enthusiasts, Henley is famous for rowing and every summer hosts the Henley Royal Regatta on Henley Reach, a straight section of river a little north of the town. Other events include the Henley Women’s Regatta and the Henley Boat Races.
