Edinburgh New Town makes an ideal base for exploring everything Edinburgh has to offer. The New Town offers grand Georgian architecture, beautiful large town houses set in crescents or squares sit beside quaint cobbled mews. The Stockbridge area is a particularly lovely area of the city, offering a good selection of independent shops and restaurants. It is just over 10 minutes’ walk from some of Edinburgh’s most popular attractions such as Princes Street and the Castle.
Edinburgh is of course, famous for The Edinburgh Festival held every August. It actually comprises separate elements, split into books, films, jazz, politics and art. The Fringe is now separate from the main festival, starting a week earlier and running throughout August, so think about booking your group accommodation in Edinburgh soon.
As you would expect, Edinburgh has a great selection of places to eat, from cosy tea rooms to Michelin star restaurants. Edinburgh currently has 4 Michelin star restaurants. It also offers a great shopping experience; you will find all the high street names on Princes Street and George Street.
Otherwise, step back a few streets for some great one-off boutiques. We like Thistle Street, a cobbled street just behind George Street, as it has restaurant bars, clothes shops, shoe shops and other fashion boutiques.
So Edinburgh has lots to offer all visitors – historical places of interest, arts, theatre, fashion, food and a great nightlife.
