Edinburgh New Town makes an ideal base for exploring everything Edinburgh has to offer. The New Town offers grand Georgian architecture, beautiful large town houses set in crescents or squares sit beside quaint cobbled mews. The Stockbridge area is a particularly lovely area of the city, offering a good selection of independent shops and restaurants. It is just over 10 minutes’ walk from some of Edinburgh’s most popular attractions such as Princes Street and the Castle.
Edinburgh is of course, famous for The Edinburgh Festival held every August. It actually comprises separate elements, split into books, films, jazz, politics and art. The Fringe is now separate from the main festival, starting a week earlier and running throughout August, so think about booking your group accommodation in Edinburgh soon.
As you would expect, Edinburgh has a great selection of places to eat, from cosy tea rooms to Michelin star restaurants. Edinburgh currently has 4 Michelin star restaurants. It also offers a great shopping experience; you will find all the high street names on Princes Street and George Street.
Otherwise, step back a few streets for some great one-off boutiques. We like Thistle Street, a cobbled street just behind George Street, as it has restaurant bars, clothes shops, shoe shops and other fashion boutiques.
So Edinburgh has lots to offer all visitors – historical places of interest, arts, theatre, fashion, food and a great nightlife.

Absolutely Fabulous. We had a family get together over the weekend with people arriving from all around the country, so Edinburgh was a good location. One would be unsure about the surrounding area until entering the gates, you are transported into a different world. Very peaceful with spacious grounds and a grand house of character. Everyone enjoyed their stay. Hot Tub, snooker, plenty of space, warm and comfortable.
Property was clean with beds and sheets especially clean and professionally prepared. The AGA was perfect for cooking lots of meals for 14 people.
All interaction was very professional and Abid was fantastic and helpful.
Overall a perfect venue for our family Christmas. Would rent again without question.
We used Drylaw House as a venue for our work Christmas meeting and everyone really enjoyed their stay. We received a lovely welcome from John. The house had everything we could possibly need and was a good location (close to Edinburgh city centre and the airport).
Drylaw house was an amazing property and the owners were so helpful and kind. We had a three night stay for my daughters hen party and 40th birthday - 18 of us stayed and the weekend was brilliant - we even cut short our night out to go back to the house as we loved it so much we didnt want to leave - fab location approx 15 mins in cab to city centre.
One small issue with a shower and someone was at the door within minutes to sort it - wonderful customer service provided.
We all loved the house so much we didnt want to leave. Highly recommend this property.
I would book through a different agent next time as house parties were not as friendly or helpful - I was pleased to deal with the owner direct and not the agent.
My husband and I were married summer 2019 in Edinburgh, inviting family and close friends from Europe, the United States, and beyond. We had many requirements for the venue: open to parties, enough beds for 20, indoor and outdoor space, flexible check in and check out, and, of course, location. Drylaw House exceeds expectations in all categories. The restoration completed by the owners is a triumphant labor of love, and truly makes the house unforgettable. Renting and celebrating here, you get much more than you pay for believe me. John and Nicki made us feel extremely welcome, responded to all inquiries promptly, and set us up for a 100% successful weekend. If I had a weeklong event, I would take the place for a whole week. As soon as the opportunity presents itself, I will be contacting them again, as Drylaw House is at the top of my list.
The house is immaculate and very well kept. The owners have thought of everything and the house had everything we needed and more. The owners were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. The house is ideally located for Edinburgh and for the beaches too. We will definitely be back!
