Group Accommodation in Dorset

A quintessentially English county, you will discover rolling hills and a picturesque coastline. Dorset was awarded a World Heritage Status by UNESCO in 2001 because it is so geographically important. It is known as the Jurassic coast as the coastline is record to 185 million years of the earth’s history.

Bournemouth has been a popular holiday resort for many years; it boasts 7 miles of golden beaches as well as a great variety of shops and restaurants. It offers a buzzing nightlife with regular events, theatres as well as vast array of watersports.

Just along the coast from Bournemouth is the town of Poole, home to some of the most expensive properties outside of London as well as Britain’s best beach, Sandbanks. Catch a ferry for a day trip to Guernsey or a city cruise around Poole harbor. Together with Bournemouth, the area offers more watersports per square mile than anywhere else in the UK.

Swanage is a traditional seaside town. The Isle of Purbeck offers sandy beaches, great countryside walks, steam railways and boat trips. Lyme Regis is a picturesque town on the border with Devon; it was featured in the Doomsday Book. The town hosts many events throughout the year including a Jazz festival, a fossil festival, and a regatta and carnival week.

Dorset has a reputation for excellent local produce and as a result many famous chefs have opened establishments in the county. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall of River Cottage fame is based near Axminster. Mark Hix has a restaurant in Lyme Regis. Lesley Waters from Ready Steady Cook runs a cookery school in Abbotts Hill and Michelin star chef, Alex Aitken cooks at The Jetty in Mudeford.
