Accommodation for Henley Royal Regatta

Henley Royal Regatta is an annual rowing event running over 5 days on the first weekend in July on the River Thames by the town oh Henley-on-Thames. Races are head to head knock out competitions over the course of 1 mile.


The Regatta was established in 1839. The Grand Challenge cup is the most prestigious event. Originally the regatta was held for just one day, popularity saw the race increase to 2 day the following year and eventually reaching 5 days in 1986.

Spectators can view races from the Stewards Enclosure, which is located at the finishing line. The Stewards enclosure offers several bars, 2 covered grandstands and a restaurant marquee. The enclosure is only open to members and their guests. Membership for the Stewards Enclosure now has a waiting list of several years.

The Regatta Enclosure is open to all for an admission fee.

Spectators to Henley Royal Regatta must adhere to a strict dress code. Gentleman must wear a suit or blazer and tie, ladies must wear a dress or skirt to below the knee. It is also customary for ladies to wear hats. The use of mobile phones in the Stewards Enclosure is also strictly forbidden.

The Stewarts Enclosure offers a real Ale Bar, Coffee & Liqueur Bar and a Champagne Bar. Guests can enjoy a 3-course lunch in the Luncheon Tent as well as Afternoon tea. No food, drinks or picnics are allowed in the Stewarts enclosure.

Places to eat and drink around Henley: –

Henley and surrounding areas offer any quality and famous restaurants. Anthony Worrall Thompsons Greyhound Pub is located a few miles out of town. It is a lovely old inn with exposed beams and also plenty of outdoor eating. Book well in advance!

For accommodation during Henley Royal Regatta why not try Chimney Corner in Henley. It sleeps 16 people in 7 bedrooms. The house has a lovely garden, hot tub and games room. The house provides a spacious alternative to a hotel or B&B. There is parking for at least 7 cars, which is often not guaranteed with a hotel booking. Catering can also be arranged if you do not wish to cook.
